Mass. pool where woman died to remain closed

FALL RIVER, Mass. – The public swimming pool in Massachusetts where the body of a woman lay unnoticed for more than two days will not reopen this summer.

The state Department of Conservation and Recreation, which oversees the pool, determined it was not worth reopening the Fall River pool with limited time left this summer.

The Herald News (http://bit.ly/qULz1z) reports the state is offering alternatives, including transportation to Horseneck Beach in Westport and use of the local YMCA pool.

The pool was drained for the investigation into the drowning in June of 36-year-old Marie Joseph. Her body lay at the bottom of the murky water for two days before surfacing.

Investigators determined that the pool never should have opened in the first place, and several employees were either fired or disciplined over the death.
