The Houston SPCA had arrived at a Texas ranch with a search and seizure warrant for a few dozen horses. Instead, they found found 300 animals – some exotic – held captive on the property.
Along with Texas sheriff's deputies and Parks and Wildlife officials, authorities on Monday seized a lizard, a raccoon, two mountain lions, two Bengal tigers, 18 cats and 230 dogs, among other animals.
Hundreds of the animals were living in unsanitary conditions, suffering from hypothermia and dehydration. Others were dead, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Curtis Moore, 51, and Racine Moore, 63, the owners of the ranch, were arrested and sent to the Coryell County jail. All of the animals are in the process of being transported by officials to the SPCA and local veterinarians.
